You didn’t come to the Texas Hill Country to stay indoors.
Leakey sits right in the heart of some of the best outdoor territory in Texas, and whether you’re here to hike, ride, float, or just breathe in that Hill Country air, you’ve picked the perfect home base.
Hit the Trails (Bikers & Hikers)
Bushong Mountain Park (2 minutes into the heart of Leakey)
A community park with hiking and mountain biking trails in Leakey, Texas.
Garner State Park (12 minutes south)
One of the most popular state parks in Texas, Garner offers 1,774 acres of Hill Country beauty with 2.9 miles of Frio River frontage. Hike, swim, camp, or stick around for the nightly summer dances at the old concession building. Hill Country tradition since the 1940s.
Lost Maples State Natural Area (30 minutes east in Vanderpool)
This 2,906-acre natural area features over 10 miles of hiking trails, including a loop that takes you along a 2,200-foot cliff with jaw-dropping views. Come between mid-October and mid-November for the famous fall foliage, the maples and cypress turn the whole place into a trail of reds, oranges, and golds. It’s Texas, but it feels like New England for a few glorious weeks.
For the (Motorcycle) Riders: The Legendary Twisted Sisters
If you’re on two wheels (or four), you already know why you’re here. The Twisted Sisters—Ranch Roads 335, 336, and 337—form a roughly 100-mile loop of some of the most challenging and rewarding riding in Texas Ride. Steep climbs, tight curves, sheer drop-offs, and panoramic vistas that’ll make you want to pull over just to take it all in.
We are excited to offer private Jeep tours around the Twisted Sisters. Please inquire at suzy@thepspringsleakey.com
The Springs sits right on Highway 337, putting you smack in the middle of the action. Stop at the Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop and Bent Rim Grill just down the road for fuel, food, and all the Twisted Sisters gear. And if you need a place to cool off after a long ride, our spring-fed swimming hole is calling your name!

Float the Frio
The Frio River offers everything from lazy swimming holes to rapids, making it perfect for tubing, kayaking, swimming, and fishing. Head five miles south to Happy Hollow and join the weekend crew floating down one of Texas’s clearest, coldest rivers. Or just walk out your back door, we’ve got our own private spring-fed swimming hole right here on the property to float peacefully.
Saddle Up
Horseback riding is popular around Leakey, with several local outfitters like Elm Creek Stables ready to take you out on the trails. The YO Ranch, about 30 minutes north, offers rides through exotic game country. It’s a popular Texas bucket-list experience.
